Maintenance of St. Vito Church
The intervention concerns the extraordinary maintenance of specific sections of the Church of San Vito in Gergei, with the aim of preserving the architectural integrity of the building. On the north-west side elevation, the deteriorated plaster was removed and the masonry was repaired, followed by the application of a new porous anti-salt plaster over the entire height of the wall. The plastered surfaces were then repainted using compatible materials, while the tops of the exposed stone buttresses were treated with a traditional cocciopesto finish.
The main façade and the exposed stone buttresses underwent careful manual cleaning, preceded by the controlled removal of old mortar. The stonework was then consolidated through repointing with hydraulic lime mortar. A protective treatment was applied to the lower portion of the façade to improve its resistance to moisture and weathering agents.
The intervention was completed with works on the roof adjacent to the bell tower, involving the replacement of deteriorated elements, the installation of a new drainage channel, and waterproofing of the area. The entire project is part of a broader approach to conservation, carried out with respect for the building's historic fabric and original architectural features.
