Public housing complex
The proposed project aims to effectively combine the aspect of the private domain (the individuality of each unit) and the one linked to the relational and social aspect. In this way, the limits placed on the basis of the competition, have become the tools through which the project have benn built: two functional buildings of collective residences connected to the entire surrounding territory by a public space which constitutes a visible except with respect to the existing tissue.
The formal genesis of the project starts primarily from a reworking of the directions on the site. The result is a completely unified intervention, in which are still recognizable the building for social rent housing (a single volume but complex and multifaceted in his composition), the building for a moderate rent accommodation (apparently broken into two volumes of different tall and with a stronger perceptual charge) and public space (carefully oriented with respect to the directions of the existing urban structure).
The void between the buildings is designed as a public space, a space of relationship capable of mediating the relationship between the street and the private space of housing. A space shared by all, habitable and inhabited, alive and therefore safe because guarded by the daily activities of those who spend their lives and those who use it; a unified space that will be divided spontaneously by human activities, constituting an island from the city without turning into an enclave or a ghetto.
The project takes into account the bioclimatic concepts; the orientation of the residential complex is derived from climate data and the environmental sustainability is a fundamental component for a "conscious design".
