Remodeling of an industrial district
The project area of about 35 hectares, located near the port area, has hosted a great paper mill. The masterplan wants to redevelop the area with the creation of an industrial and crafts center linked to boating. Existing structures and the whole plan in which they fit were considered mostly inadequate to the new production program; it will be maintained only the most interesting buildings from an architectural point of view, as well as the central road that is an important sign on a large scale.
The masterplan has been designed and structured according to two alternative hypotheses, two scenarios, which, according to the different degree of preservation of historical memory, provide respectively the total or the partial demolition. The partial demolition solution is chosen according not only to architectural/urban considerations, but also economic, functional, etc.
