Fondazione di Sardegna headquarter
The redevelopment of the building designated as the Cagliari institutional headquarters of the Banco di Sardegna Foundation represents the final phase in the regeneration of a block within Cagliari’s historic center.
The existing condition of the building was characterized by severe structural decay and significant alterations to both façades and interiors, mainly due to a series of uncoordinated interventions carried out over the decades.
The project involves the restoration of the façades and the complete reconstruction of the interior spaces, in order to adapt them to the Foundation’s functional needs.
In an initial phase, the project addressed the challenges of completely demolishing the internal structures while preserving the external envelope. Demolition was carried out from the inside using remotely operated equipment, allowing for a top-down process that ensured the protection of the architectural elements on the external façades.
Subsequently, vertical and horizontal structures were rebuilt according to the new spatial layout. The ground and first floors form a semi-public interface with the city and are designed to host events, exhibitions, conferences, and cultural activities. The upper floors are exclusively reserved for the Foundation’s administrative and representative functions.
A full-height foyer, naturally lit from above by a row of windows, provides access to a conference room and an exhibition gallery—both located within the newly reconstructed extension of the building. The second floor houses executive and representative functions, while the third and top floor contains staff offices and a guest room with en-suite bathroom, serving as accommodation for visiting personnel.
