New engineering library
The project involves the conversion of the third level of the parking garage placed into the Building "Nucleo B", and its structural and functional adaptation, in order to transform it into the New Library of the Technological District of the Engineering Faculty. Part of the first level of the same parking garage, is simultaneously designed to accommodate the storage of the same library.
The third level of the garage is all set to host the reading room, the administrative functions related to it, services rooms and a small garage with four parking spaces reserved for users with disabilities. Main entrance to the reading room will be from the stairwell existing on the east side of the complex. The access points are directly connected with the information and control desk, open on all four sides. The room configuration will be fully open; the reading tables, with modular structure will arranged in a way which optimizes the natural lighting effect, the efficiency of the lighting and the linearity of the routes and escape routes.
The floor of the library will be a colored resin which ensures maximum ease of maintenance, durability, impermeability, good reflection of natural light and minimizes the incidence of the thickness on the environments votes heights; the functional adaptation of a garage, designed with reduced inter-heights and with double structural warping, makes it particularly significant optimization of useful heights. Separate from the main reading room more auxiliary rooms are foreseen: a reading room with few seats, a computer room, a periodicals reading room and a meeting room.
