Cammino Nuovo park
The project site is currently occupied by an area for parking, it is placed between the lower part of the eighteenth-century walls and fortifications of the actual castle. The project area, especially in recent times, has undergone profound changes, often spontaneous and random, which have compromised the coherence from the point of view of landscape, functionality and environmental. This observation takes the form then the project proposal that aims at enhancing the slopes of the historical walls, to create a system of pedestrian spaces and green spaces to be put at the service of residents, to strengthen the urban transport system, to complete the restoration of the fortifications.
The project addresses the issue of urban transformation at several levels, through:
- creation of an urban park equipped adequately to the needs of the urban context in which it is inserted;
- creation of an urban public space that enhances the historical and architectural features of the fortifications;
- rationalization of routes in order to effectively compensate for the difficult orographic situation that distinguishes the site;
- construction of an infrastructure for the rational staging and adequate size to the needs of strengthening the parking system;
- inclusion of new elevators for direct connection of the car park and the park with the upper area of the Bastione di Santa Croce;
- increase the vocation as a center of the commercial and tourist attraction;
- discouraging the use of private vehicles, especially within the historic areas in favor of pedestrian traffic and the use of public transport;
- enhancement of the system of fortifications as a historic landscaped well and mitigation of landslide risk through consolidation work.
The intervention is the opportunity for the realization of further interventions and for the triggering of new positive urban dynamics and in particular:
- improving connections between parts of the city currently isolated;
- incentive to invest in the city areas currently not valued;
- the creation of new tourist and cultural settings;
- the improvement of the physical and environmental conditions.
