Becco House

The project involved the extraordinary maintenance of a residential unit located in Becco, Carloforte, part of a small building complex in an isolated and elevated position on the island’s western coast. Previously in an advanced state of decay due to exposure to weather and a lack of upkeep, the house has been carefully restored, preserving its original character. The building, which is arranged over three levels, has maintained its residential function and is now once again fully integrated into a landscape of significant environmental value.
The intervention included the demolition and reconstruction of the floor slab between the ground and attic levels, in order to meet current building regulations and improve interior comfort. The interior layout was entirely redefined: the ground floor now hosts an open-plan living room with kitchen and a bathroom, while the upper level accommodates a bedroom and a second bathroom. The basement level, which retained its original function, includes two storage rooms and a renovated, enlarged bathroom. The project successfully restored habitability to the home, aligning it with the needs of contemporary living.
The external parts of the building were also restored, with new plasterwork replicating the original finishes and the replacement of wooden shutters and frames with identical elements in terms of shape, material, and color. No changes were made to volumes, outlines, or outdoor arrangements, ensuring full respect for the existing context. The intervention aimed to combine technical rehabilitation with architectural enhancement, preserving the historical identity of the building and its relationship with the surrounding landscape.
