Restoration of Chiostro di S.Francesco

The strategy for the restoration and for reuse of the "Chiostro di San Francesco in Stampace" starts from an accurate historical-stratigraphic survey conducted by Arch. Caterina Giannattasio and his staff at DICAAR at University of Cagliari. From this analysis results some basic elements for the development of the project: on the one hand the awareness of the monument recognizable loss into the urban context, on the other the consolidation of an image linked to its current character as "ruin".The actions proposed are intended to rebuild the elements in order to return, even if partially and without stylistic and dating ambiguity, the readability of the original texture and, at the same time, not to change the external aspects of the degradation process that led to the current image of monument, limiting itself to consolidate and protect the current status.
The restoration project aims at the recovery and functional adaptation of the monument, with its future use still being defined, but intended for a cultural and exhibition purpose accessible to the public.
