Gonnesa urban development plan

Gonnesa territory is characterized by particularly significant natural and man-made structures. The first sees the alternation, in a complex territorial system, with especially valuable elements such as: the beach and the sea of Plagemesu along the cliffs that extend from south to Porto Paglia and from north to Fontanamare; the dune complex and its scrub vegetation; the lagoon area of Sa Masa; and, along the Rio Sa Masa, agricultural fields, up to the mountain scenes that surround the city.
The second, the man-made, declares the history of an area that has one of the "nuragici" complexes among the most important of the island, the Seruci complex, which is supported by a dense network of "nuraghi", from the coast to the hinterland, arranged around the complex almost wanting to demarcate and defend the border. Other structuring element is Porto Paglia place for tuna fishing ("tonnara"), witness of historic settlement of Sulcis areas next to the sea, which together with other Sulcis places for tuna fishing great resource in terms of assets.
Landscape is marked by mining, which has characterized the way in founding structure: Seruci mining area, the complex of caves landscapes scattered across large areas, and the mining complex next to Iglesias, are strong signs, connected by elements that bear witness to the past use of the land. The dense network of roads that lead from Gonnesa centers, Bacu Abis, Cortoghiana and Nuraxi Figus, the sea (from Fontanamare up to Portoscuso), as well  as the mountain areas, are testimony of the mining era.
